Our Celestial Connection: How the Universe Speaks to You

“We're spiritual beings having a human experience.”

 ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Some might believe the Universe “speaking” is metaphorical rather than literal, I believe it’s a way of describing moments of intuition, insight, or synchronicities that are meant to be significant to us.

Synchronicities are one of the most powerful ways the Universe communicates with you. As I began to write this blog, I thought about my custom of paying attention to “Angel numbers”.  I’ve always thought seeing triple #’s is a sign from the Universe, trying to get my attention.  I don’t know when or where I picked up this habit, but I’m thoroughly convinced that it’s the Universe’s way of getting me to pay attention to either my thoughts or what is going on around me at that moment. After thinking about this form of signs from the Universe I decided I needed a snack before I continued writing.   As I returned to my desk, I glanced at the digital clock across the room and saw it was 3:33 pm. I jumped for joy inside because I now knew the Universe had decided it had something to say about all this too!

In numerology, the number 3 means self-expression, communication, creativity, optimism, and joy.  I get a great deal of joy from writing.  It has always been an easy way for me to express myself creatively.  I particularly love being guided, and spoken to, and have spent many years honing my skills as a Remote Viewer and Energy Medicine practitioner to better communicate with the infinite source of wisdom that is available to us. I always do an annual vision board to bring forth goals in my life and my desire for this year is to continue to deepen this skill to help my clients find more joy in their lives.  I looked up the meaning of 333, and numerologist Michelle Buchanan, says it means:

"It is a very powerful creative force that amplifies our thoughts, words, and emotions—so when we're living in a high vibration, expressing ourselves joyfully and positively in the world, we attract more happiness, abundance and good fortune.”

Becoming aware of the signs we are given constantly opens us up to a higher vibrational level of reality that surrounds and supports us. We have so much more support available to us when we learn the language of the Universe by “tuning in.”

I no sooner finished giggling at the Universe’s sense of timing when I got an out-of-the-blue text from my best pal whom I spent most of my time hanging out with in the Eden Method Certification training program, and who is now, like myself, a fellow Advanced Practitioner. I hadn’t spoken to her in months and she sent a picture of a book she saw titled, “How to Hug a Porcupine – Easy Ways to Love the Difficult People in Your Life”.   Along with the photo of the book she texted:

“Saw the title of this book and thought of your story about your mom and the pin you found.”

I roared with laughter at the nudges I was getting.  I had been conversing in my mind lately with my mother asking her for help in understanding some of her suffering in life and getting quite a few messages from her, so this was again beyond coincidental.

My mother was a prickly lady who challenged me greatly in the tween, teenage, and young adult years of my life.  She struggled with emotional difficulties, depression, and alcoholism, and could become angry, mean, and abusive to the people she loved.  Fortunately, when my children were born, she was better behaved around them, partially because I wouldn’t allow it if she wanted to be part of their lives, and she medically had been forced to stop drinking.  She still managed to spar with those closest around her, particularly at the end of her life, because she had grown a lifetime of sharp energy quills that made her difficult to deal with.  A true porcupine when it came to trying to hug her.  She died far too young because of her sensitive, irritable, touchy spiky self.  She had suffered a stroke and told us all off in her usual way.  She demanded an early release from the rehabilitation centre she had been put in. She snapped “She was fine” and claimed she knew better than all the “stupid people” around her.  She continued to repel us from her with her sharp pointy energy quills that she projected from herself and ended up, alone, fatally injuring herself from fainting and falling, smacking her head on the corner of her bathroom counter, only several weeks after being back in her home.

A sign can be a literal sign with words or pictures like a road sign, billboard, or Instagram post trying to give you a message.  My mom didn’t pass away immediately after she hit her head.  She was rushed to the hospital after she was found on the ground, after lying there for many hours.  She was given cranial surgery after they took a CT scan and saw the massive hematoma on her brain that had occurred from the blow to her head.  After scrambling to save her life the brain surgeons and specialists in the ICU met with my sister and me and told us they didn’t see her being able to recover.  After her stroke, she had barely learned how to swallow, had become emaciated, and was struggling physically.  As she lay there hooked up to tubes and in a coma, they advised us to stop lifesaving measures as she was going to be severely incapacitated if there was a miracle and she recovered.   My mother had been a sickly person throughout her life but was tough as nails and had always managed to bounce back from her dire health circumstances.  It was a heart-wrenching decision that my sister and I had to make.  I went home that night pacing back and forth before bed, not knowing what the right thing was to do.  Eventually, I went to bed, pleading and begging the “Universe, Mom, anyone out there listening, please tell me what the right thing is to do” before I finally fell asleep.  Just before I woke up the next morning, I saw a sign in my mind’s eye written in big white letters across a black screen that said, “Youths in Asia.”  I woke up confused by this message when it dawned on me. I would never have trusted it as a true sign if it had been written the correct way…Euthanasia.  The practice of ending the life of a patient to limit the patient’s suffering.

After her stroke Mom and I had talked at great length about her end-of-life wishes before she died.  She had wanted to have a DNR – do not resuscitate order.  Having lost my grandmother not long before and having had to watch her suffer horrendously, I had advised Mom to change her directive to save her life, if possible, if she became incapacitated. I had learned the hard way that if she didn’t, they would take her off food and water, all medication and just let her die in pain and dehydration.  A terrible method of passive Euthanasia that is a standard practice in hospitals.  If she had a directive to save her life, if possible, it would give us, her next of kin, the power to control how she died.  I promised her I wouldn’t let her die in pain like granny had.  I was so grateful for the sign that I had been given during my dream that told us what we needed to do.  We made sure that she didn’t suffer, and she was cared for by beautiful loving hospice workers, who went out of their way to make her end of life as painless and special as possible.

I’ve studied subtle energies for most of my life and believe our energy signature continues. Distraught over her tragic and sad demise I asked for a sign that she was ok. I ventured out for a long drive to our city’s grandest spiritual gift bookstore hoping to find something meaningful, which ended up being disappointingly closed. I wandered down the street and walked into a random lamp store to help make the long drive I’d made worth it.  This shop sold lamps, so I had given up on my quest for a “life after death” sign.  I thought the salt lamp in the window was cool, and having been an Interior Designer for 35 years, I was pulled in to search for stylish décor.

I was just about to leave when I noticed at the cash desk there was a small display of jewelry.  I went over to look at what there was and in the center of a handful of rings was this beautiful gold “Porcupine” brooch!  Not only did my mother love brooches but it was a Porcupine!  This was beyond any sign I ever could have imagined, in a place least likely to have such a thing! It gave me such a heartfelt sense of peace and relief.  Not only did she get that she had been a prickly mother to love, but she wanted me to know she was ok.  My mother has been one of my greatest teachers in my life and I will forever be grateful for our lifetime together.

It doesn’t have to be complicated.  Signs come to me abundantly in sessions when I work with clients.  This universal energy speaks to me the moment I put my hands on a client.  I didn’t always understand why I might get a sensation of being poked behind the earlobe, but after years of learning to “tune in” to the kinesthetic sensory language of energy, it began to make sense.   After graduating from my studies in Remote Viewing and Energy Medicine and now having in-depth knowledge of our meridian systems, I have learned that the client might have an out-of-balance Triple Warmer system, that is affecting their nervous system. Triple Warmer 17 acupoint is behind the earlobe, close to the vagus nerve, and is indicated in acupuncture for ear problems, deafness, tinnitus, toothaches, pain, and much more.  Learning to “tune in” and become aware of one tiny poke signal in my body has given me an extrasensory ability to help my clients, with methods I’ve been taught, to balance irregular energies in these areas to promote self-healing.

Physical pain, symptoms, ailments, and diseases are all ways the Universe communicates to you there is something wrong.  Your lifestyle and habits can be causing a problem such as pain in your back from sitting too much.  This can be a sign that you need to change your lifestyle and be more active.  Illnesses can also have emotional and spiritual causes that may manifest as physical ailments.

3 weeks after Mom died, I entered my 3rd year of studies in the Eden Method - Energy Medicine.  It was early days after she was gone but I knew I would be in good hands being with the 50+ practitioners gathering for this amazing 1st session of 4 days of classes.  In our small groups we took turns working on one another and one of my classmates discovered energy vortexes over both my hips.  I also noticed a rash forming over my Heart 3 acupoints, on the inner crevasses of the elbows of my arms signaling something was also up with my heart meridian and Fire Rhythm.  My skin eventually broke out similarly with the same rash over my hips a few days later. Everything starts as energy before it becomes something physical.  It didn’t take long for everyone trained to recognize that my “Metal” and “Fire” Rhythms had gone out of balance when my mom died.  The emotional duress had caused these energy systems to become irregular indicating the emotional energies of grief, sadness, and sorrow were being expressed through my skin. The stress and trauma of what I’d gone through with my mom and my suffering broken heart were showing up physically. I worked with these energy systems regularly for quite a while and as the grief started to feel less raw, the rash cleared up. It’s wise to explore lifestyle, spiritual, and emotional causes of symptoms to get to the root cause. When you heal the emotional aspect, often the physical symptoms naturally goes away.

Have you ever noticed a random song pop into your head? Or a certain song come on the radio? I have been diving deeply into Lisa McCourt’s book “Free Your Joy”  and one of her keys to happiness is to observe yourself and your emotions.  I get up early to have time to do my self-care so I’m in good shape for my clients.  I take a warm relaxing bath, meditate, listen to inspirational podcasts, do my Daily Energy Routine, and check in with myself to make sure I’m balanced and happy.  I was short on time one day a few weeks ago and after I got dressed, I began running around trying to get done all the tasks I had put on my to-do list for that day.  I started to notice that I kept doing things that were irritating me.  The more I rushed the more I would mess up, knocking over a container I pulled out of the fridge for breakfast that I then had to clean up, tripping over one of my front doorsteps rushing to my car, dropping the grocery bag I had pulled out of the back of the car and so on.  Believing I had to get everything done that I had planned for that day made me feel anxious, and I realized that I was swearing at myself, berating myself internally “You are so clumsy, stop being so stupid, why are you wasting precious time” and so on.  “Tuning in” I realized the conditioned incessant internal voice we all have, which research says spews over 70 thousand thoughts a day with 80% of them being negative, was torturing me and causing me to rush and make mistakes.  Having a prickly mother growing up had made this faulty habit a subconscious default. Lisa suggests we start to pay attention and question this conditioned voice in a more loving way. Asking questions such as “Darling what do you need?”  I tried this and distinctly heard the lyrics “Slow down you move too fast, you got to make the morning last…” This well-known Paul Simon song popped into my mind and gave me a clear message.  It let me know that my rushing around was causing me stress and unbalancing my energies causing my day to go sideways, and I needed to ignore the negative voice I was playing in my head. I needed to slow down.

Do you keep having the same dreams over and over again?  What are they about?  Are you seeing the same person, visiting the same places, having the same experiences?   Do you keep having nightmares?  When you look deeper into the “meaning of your dreams” you will see they are full of signs and messages telling you how to resolve and sort out things that may be currently happening in your life. It can also be trying to inform you about a deeper fear that you have that needs to be examined and healed. Do you often dream about a time in your life or being with certain people from your past? When I’m worrying about my family, I sometimes find myself dreaming about the house I lived in with my parents just before they divorced.  There was lots of arguing, stress, and tension in the home, as this was a time when my family fell apart. Messages, guidance, and answers can come to us through our dreams.  Did you have an intense dream that felt super real? Who did you meet? What did they say? What happened? Paying attention to all these pieces of a dream can help you sort out and work through how you might be feeling about something.

Another form of sign is when you get a sudden download where a thought pops into your head out of nowhere.  This can be a random idea, a solution to a problem, or something you feel inspired to do.  Pay attention to this and see what it can mean for you.  When you feel like “this is right” or “something is off” or “every part of me wants to do this,” that deep feeling or knowing is a clear sign from the Universe.

Is everyone around you doing something you’re contemplating or know deep inside you should do? You know deep down inside that you should quit drinking alcohol and live a healthier lifestyle.  All of a sudden, you visit your best friend, and she says she just gave up drinking.  Your sister and her husband are starting a “no drinking” kick tomorrow.  Your co-worker is telling you how great he feels from not drinking for a whole year.  These are all clear signs from the Universe that absolutely, you should focus on your health and consider giving up drinking.

How to know the Universe is speaking to you.

During Meditation

When you go within to connect with your center you can tap into great wisdom. This opens the floodgates for the Universe to communicate with you so that you can receive signs, guidance, and answers. Statistics show that most successful people follow a daily mindfulness practice. Not only does it help to reduce stress, stop rumination, boost creativity, improve physical health, and improve mood, it promotes clarity of thought. It helps successful people remain at a high level of functioning and think innovatively. When you get that “monkey mind” out of the way you can activate the imagination and hear what wants to be.

Symbols from nature

Colours, flowers, animals, feathers, rocks, and crystals have certain meanings.  Pay attention to what you see, what you come in contact with, what reappears in your life, and what you’re drawn to.  I saw so many birds in my dreams the night my Granny died.  They had profound messages for all of us she left behind. Afterwards, I kept finding feathers everywhere.  I remember crying in the laundry room thinking of her one day and looked up to see thousands of hummingbirds surrounding my neighbour’s bird feeder.  I took a photo of our lit fire pit the night before we scattered her ashes at her cabin. There was a distinct image of “The Phoenix Rising” in the flame. Likewise, after my mom died, I was walking in the woods up at our cabin with my eldest daughter and grandchildren and spotted a large owl in one of the trees.  I’d never seen an owl at this spot on the island, so it seemed quite unusual and magical.  When we returned to the cabin my daughter pulled out one of the “onesies” my mother had given her for her daughter.  She died right before the baby shower and never met her great-granddaughter. We found the gifts she had bought, left in gift bags on her guest bedroom bed.   This adorable pink onesie, that my daughter pulled out after our walk said on the front “Owl always love you”.

Objects

The Universe can communicate with you through objects such as when you find something you’ve been looking for, when objects fall off shelves or out of cabinets, or when you come across an object that triggers something from the past, supports a new idea you have, or acts as an answer to a question.  My mother was American and after her divorce from my dad, she moved back to the United States to live in Marysville, Washington.  She loved her country and being that I was raised and still live in Canada I’m convinced she is saying hello every time I come across an American coin lying on the ground.  It happens far more often than it should.  When something keeps happening over and over again within a short period, or if it keeps showing up throughout your life, pay attention. Persistence and repetition are a definite sign telling you that the Universe is trying to get your attention!

Technological malfunctions

Your internet goes out, there’s no service or Wi-Fi, your text message doesn’t want to send, your computer shuts off, your movie won’t load, or your TV isn’t working.  These signs could be interpreted in different ways.  The other morning I was reading in the bath, “Surviving Death” by Leslie Kean.  It’s a fabulous well-researched book on the subject of the afterlife and I was reading a section that talked about this very thing.  My mind wandered for a moment thinking it would be cool if I could get a sign from my mother and voila, a recessed pot light over our separate toilet room door, that never works when we turn on the lights, in the ceiling suddenly lit back up.

Setbacks, roadblocks, detours, and delays

When your flight gets delayed, your appointment is canceled, you get sick, etc. There are times when it seems like everything is going wrong and just when you thought life couldn’t get worse, it does.  Your car breaks down, your roof starts leaking, you lose your job, your kid gets in a fight, your partner breaks up with you, or someone you love dies. The Universe might be trying to nudge you in a different direction.

Everything in your life is flowing and aligning.

This is the opposite of everything falling apart, and here you’re feeling inspired, feeling good, you’re in the zone, opportunities are showing up left and right, your desires are manifesting, you’re feeling connected and aligned, things work out somehow, and there’s a sense of flow in your life.  This is a beautiful sign that you are aligned with your truth and that you’re on the right path.

When signs come to you, it’s important that you don’t overanalyze and overthink the sign or try to make sense of it logically.  The Universe expresses its intelligence in great simplicity. It’s only our minds and egos that try to know the why, the what, and the when.  My best work as a Remote Viewer has been when I humbled myself and recorded what I was experiencing in the moment with no judgment.  It taught me to never question because the sudden out-of-the-blue “hits” in the middle of silent observing were always right.  So always trust your gut!

The Universe always has your back.  It’s here to guide you and give you answers.  It’s here to protect you and support you.  It’s here to remind you in every moment that you are not alone. It knows your needs before you do.  All you must do is pay attention to the signs and have faith that you are being directed and supported every step of the way.
